This is a much better product than in the past. Family members had similar items and you had to crank them forever to get any power. This one works easily and charges up fast, works well with the sun too. With all the storms we get in New England, the power goes out often, its a good idea to have an something like this. Be advised it is small in size but the lamp is strong. Nice color too!

This is/should be the radio of choice for backpacks and emergency kits.
This is an excellent, high quality radio that should last you a very long time.
The plastic cover is more of a rubberized coating on it, not smooth plastic, which provides more of a grip and is a nice touch.
I have an FR250 but it was too big for a backpack/emergency kit, so I picked up this one and I love it.
Has a bunch of weather bands, AM/FM, and has 3LEDs that make up the flashlight component. It is powered by solar power, or by hand crank.
2 min of cranking will give you 20 to 30 min of power.
I HIGHLY recommend this radio.

I bought this item to take with me while camping. The great attractive feature was the fact that we could listen to the radio and the weather station while in the woods without the need for batteries.
This feature works very well. It makes it a green product, since you save loads of batteries, just using the handle to charge it. One thing we notice though, was during our last camping trip, a winter one. The temperatures was below freezing (around 29F/-2C) and the radio was working perfectly fine, but the battery would last less longer (wich is not exactly a major problem). So if you are planning to use it for winter camping, be advised that you may need to recharge it more often.
The other reason I bought it would be to charge my cellphone just using the solar power charge. This does not work. To charge your cellphone for up to a minute of talking, you need to spin the handle for more than 15 minutes. The instruction manual does not even mention that you can charge your cellphone using solar power.
By the way, the instruction manual is terrible. It does not provide answers for half of the questions we had about the product, and left us to find out by using the product.
Overall, I’m very satisfied with this purchase.

I have an older, larger ETON radio. I was pleasantly suprised by this new, compact model. Yes, the tuning dial is compressed, but I was able to tune in the local PBS station after a bit of fiddling. That station is hard to get in my neighborhood without static; I had to buy an HD receiver to pull the signal in. This radio–though it’s not HD–is static free. Better reception than my Freeplay wind up radio (though the sound on the Freeplay is a lot more natural.) And the sound–while by no means high fi–is very easy to listen to. Speech comes through very clearly. The winding handle feels solid. The rubberized coating of the radio is nice to hold. I haven’t tried the solar cells yet, though my impression is you’d need very strong sun to run the rardio on it. Also: you can’t run the radio on batteries or AC, but I suppose that’s how they were able to make the thing so small.

Overall a good product. Flashlight is not the brightest but being able to charge it via handcrank makes it a great “kitchen drawer” emergency light and radio. The built in solar cell actually makes a case for keeping it on the windowsill so it will always be ready when you need it. Smaller than I originally imagined but in a good way. It’s nice to use around the house knowing I’ll never have to buy another battery… at least for this gadget.
